- Affiliation

If you manage, run or are thinking of setting up provision for young people in Somerset, affiliating to Somerset Youth and Community Service provides access to a wide range of services, support, advice and opportunities. It also ensures we can keep you up to date with new developments.

 

There is no need to feel isolated; 
you can get help and advice from our friendly, expert team.

 

Affiliation is free of charge and is recommended for any club or organisation which provides or supports open-access provision for 11 to 19 year olds.

Affiliation provides...

 

  • support to set up new clubs and sustain existing clubs, including help and advice with:
    • policies
    • governance
    • health and safety (including risk assessments)
    • safeguarding
  • access to grant funding (terms and conditions apply, see website for details) and fundraising advice
  • fulfils affiliation requirements for youth club insurance policies
  • at least one visit per year from a qualified and experienced professional Youth & Community Officer to offer advice and support as required
  • support and advice by email or telephone
  • template policies and documents, as well as a range of youth work resources
  • bespoke youth work training programmes
  • accredited Basic Child Protection training for your staff and volunteers
  • the opportunity to apply for a programme of youth development sessions, designed to meet the needs of your club
  • support for your club to achieve Benchmark awards
  • access to Endeavour Credits, a way of formally recognising young people's achievements in their youth club
  • monthly information bulletins, plus additional updates as relevant opportunities and information become available
  • chance to advertise jobs, events etc on the ‘News' section of our service website

 


Conditions of affiliation.

By affiliation to SYCS, your club or organisation confirms that it will:

  • work with Somerset Youth and Community Service to provide the best possible provision 
  • Operate within the Somerset County Council geographic area
  • Work with young people within the 11-19 age range in a universal, open-access setting
  • Be correctly constituted and governed and covered by Public Liability Insurance (where necessary)
  • Have at least one member of staff who is Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) cleared and have an appointed Safeguarding Lead who has been appropriately trained.
  • Not promote religious or political beliefs through activities supported by SYCS
  • Affiliation is valid for one year
