Basic Awareness Child Protection Training

Somerset Youth and Community Service are now able to offer the Local Safeguarding Children Board (LSCB) accredited Basic Awareness Child Protection half day course, free of charge. This course is suitable for all staff (paid and voluntary) who work in youth clubs and we recommend that all staff undertake it. The learning outcomes for the course are that, by the end of the session, participants will:

  • Have an understanding of the current legislation for safeguarding children and how this links to child protection history
  • Understand how to respond to evidence or concerns that a child has been abused
  • Be able to name the four categories of abuse
  • Have a clear understanding of safeguarding roles and responsibilities
  • Be able to respond appropriately in a case study activity
  • Have considered safer working practices

Participants will receive an LSCB certificate at the end of the training. The course takes about 3½ hours.

If you do not work in an open access, universal youth club setting, you are not eligible to attend this training. Please click here to access other accredited safeguardining training.

How to access this training

We can arrange to deliver training to individual staff teams, at times to suit them. If more than six staff, who work in open door, universal youth club settings want this training, we will come out to you to deliver it. You provide the venue and any refreshments, we provide the training!

We do ask that you allow us to open up this training to staff and volunteers from other clubs to ensure the training is available to as many people as possible.
